What Does the Future Hold?
Asperger's Syndrome, Non-Verbal Learning Disorder and Pervasive Developmental
Disorder have no effect on IQ. People with these syndromes have the same range of
IQ as the general population. Some are fantastically brilliant in their field of interest
and enjoy great success in careers that allow their strengths to shine. Conventional
IQ tests are very deceiving when testing someone on the Autism Spectrum because one
of the criteria for NLD/AS is a having a large discrepancy between verbal skills and
reading comprehension. Also, because their brains work differently, they may show
tremendous strength in one area, while showing tremendous weakness in others.
Some will go to college, some will not. Some will drive, some will
not. Some will work in offices, some will work in warehouses, some will invent things
and some will not. Some will live in houses, others will live in apartments, some
will need assistance and some will not.
Just like everybody else.
